Alaska Snowflake Photos - Winter 2006-2007 : We have had plenty of snow this winter but most of the crystals were covered with rime. The temperatures were just too warm. Today, however, a cold storm blew into the Anchorage area ( Jan. 3, 2007) and we are receiving a good covering of attractive crystals. Time to get some photos! We actually broke a record for a single day snowfall in January. Lots of snow around. I'd guess a good solid foot fell here in the Muldoon area. Upper hillside received 22 plus inches. As of 11:30 pm, it has finally stopped snowing, but we still have snow showers in the forecast with a dropping temperatures trend forecasted. I still might get some snow crystal plate photos, but the dendrites that have fallen in the area today have been spectacular.

Alaska Snowflake Photos: Winter 2005-2006 : The first really good snowstorm here in Anchorage, Alaska happened EARLY Thanksgiving morning. Armed with some ideas and better technique, I went out to see what snowflake photos I could capture. Here are the results. Please let me know what you think. As the Alaskan winter progresses and we get additional snow, this gallery of macro snow crystal images will continue to grow. This year's collection currently numbers 45 crystals, but the weather report seems to indicate more are on the way. :) Please have a look and don't forget to leave a comment!

Alaska Snowflake Photos: Winter 2004-2005 : I remember as a child being fascinated by the beauty of a snowflake that could be seen with a simple magnifying hand lens. So, I set out to photograph some of the snowflakes falling in our Alaskan driveway, you know, the stuff we curse at and that has to be shoveled. What I found still amazes me. My equipment is nothing more than regular digital slr camera equipment modified for extreme closeup work (macro photography). The technique involved required for snowflake photos has to be executed perfectly. I hope you enjoy my snow crystal images.
