We have had plenty of snow this winter but most of the crystals were covered with rime. The temperatures were just too warm. Today, however, a cold storm blew into the Anchorage area ( Jan. 3, 2007) and we are receiving a good covering of attractive crystals. Time to get some photos! We actually broke a record for a single day snowfall in January. Lots of snow around. I'd guess a good solid foot fell here in the Muldoon area. Upper hillside received 22 plus inches. As of 11:30 pm, it has finally stopped snowing, but we still have snow showers in the forecast with a dropping temperatures trend forecasted. I still might get some snow crystal plate photos, but the dendrites that have fallen in the area today have been spectacular. Be sure to check out the snowflake photos from other winters.
